News and events relating to Diggers Cricket Club Inc
Talented Diggers junior ETHAN ATKINSON has been chosen in the north coast under 14,s team to contest the Kookaburra Cup in January.
Today saw the North Coast U14 Rep side comfortably topple Mid North Coast headed by more strong performances from Plantation Diggers Cricket Club Duo Ty Adams and Ethan Atkinson.
Ty Adams once again opened the batting and put in a strong performance before being run out on 41. Ty shared a 78 run partnership with Raman Phoonie of Woolgoolga which set up the victory. Ethan Atkinson chipped in with a handy 12 later on and got the bowling off on the right foot with an economical spell of 1/11.
North Coast 9/164 def Mid North Coast 10/134
I'm sure there will be plenty more similar results to come from these two rising stars.
Well done lads!
Congratulations to two of our up and coming stars Ty Adams and Ethan Atkinson. The duo geared up for the North Coast Cricket Council U14's today against Far North Coast. Although the result was a narrow 7 run loss for the North Coast boys our Diggers stars featured strongly in the fight!
Congrats guys and keep those results coming!
Plantation Diggers Cricket Club has claimed the Lachlan Dew Memorial Shield for the fourth consecutive season. As temperatures nudged 40 degrees action on the park heated up. Diggers set a moderate total of 150 for Nana Glen to chase and chase they did.
Nana Glen lost their last wicket late in the afternoon, just 5 runs shy of the target.
It was great to see the trophy, donated in honour of Lachy, who could only be described as one of Coffs Harbour Greatest Ever Cricket Characters, dusted off once more.
Below the photo you will find an extract from the Diggers Cricket Club History Book which explains the trophy in further detail...
In a tragic event that shook the entire Coffs Harbour cricketing community, Nana Glen and former Diggers player, Lachlan Dew was killed in a car accident on Bucca Road on the 23rd July 2004.
At twenty five years of age, the gifted and popular sportsman had so much more to offer the sport he loved and the Nana Glen Cricket Club he helped rebuild.
His tragic loss deeply affected everyone who knew him or knew of him. A happy go lucky nature combined with a caring and outgoing, chatty personality, Lachlan was the epitome of the Aussie larrikin, unfazed by difficulties, always there with a witty comment and always ready to pitch in when needed without a second thought.
His funeral, at St Peter's Anglican Church, Nana Glen on Thursday 29th July 2004 was attended by hundreds of family, friends and cricketers, all wishing to pay their respects to one of the finest the local game has produced.
In dedication to the memory of Lachlan and his contribution to local cricket, the Lachlan Dew Memorial Trophy was contested by 1st Grade sides from Nana Glen and Diggers Ex-Services, the two Clubs both he and his father, Garry had played for.
Following the game, Nana Glen Cricket Club President, Len Towells spoke of the loss felt by the Club and Nana Glen as a community in general before inviting Lachlan's parents, Garry and Evelyn Dew to present the trophy to winning Nana Glen captain, Andrew Mainey.
Each season since, the two Clubs play for the Lachlan Dew Memorial Trophy each time they meet.
